February 12, 2021

Prudential Life Assurance Zambia has, through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) COVID-19 fund, facilitated the renovation of ablution blocks at 3 schools in Lusaka to the value of US$40,000.

“The facilities at Chipata Primary School, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Primary School, and Chipata Open Community School provide much needed
protection from infectious diseases such as COVID-19,” said Prudential Managing Director, Krishnaswamy Rajagopal at a handover ceremony which took place on Wednesday 10 February 2021. “As a result of this project, we are providing functioning water, sanitation and hygiene facilities to over 4000 pupils,” he continued.

Last year, the life assurance company partnered with local Non-Governmental Organisation, Vision Africa Regional Network (VAREN), who were tasked with the implementation of the project. “Through this generous donation, we have not only been able to provide upgraded ablution facilities but have also provided foot-operated hand-washing stations to 24 schools in the district.” Said Chief Procurement Officer of VAREN, Mr. Joseph Sinkala.

In attendance at the handover ceremony was Deputy Mayor for Lusaka, Honorable Christopher Shakafuswa, “The Lusaka City Council thanks the Prudence Foundation for the generous donation, Prudential Life Assurance for identifying this gap, and VAREN for ensuring that the facilities are well renovated. It is such selfless initiatives that make the City of Lusaka a better place for all who live in it,” he said.

The Head Teachers from each recipient school were also present. “We are grateful for this generous donation which has been an answer to many pleas we have put out” said Mr. Samuel Mulawa, Chipata Primary School Head Teacher.

“We are indeed honoured to have been able to join the fight against the Coronavirus with the backing of our Community Investment Arm, The Prudence Foundation. We thank the District Education Board Secretary and the Lusaka Water Sanitation and Supply Company for the invaluable support they provided throughout the project.” Concluded Mr Raymond Ngoma, Head of Human Resources and Administration at Prudential Zambia.
